Thanks to Spanish 40k site La Voz De Horus we can now see what the Reivers are all about:
Thanks to the magical wonder that is Google Translate, I can tell you what they do!
The first weapon is a bolt pistol with AP -1 (pretty simple to figure out)
The Filoarma (combat knife) provides an extra attack in close combat
The next two are frag and krak grenades, you should know how these work.
The last one, the Shock Grenades, are the new cool thing on the block. They do not inflict damage. Instead, each time it hits an enemy unit, it is stunned until the end of the turn, it can not do overwatch and your opponent must subtract 1 to any hits made by the unit. The shock grenade has no additional effects.
That is pretty cool! As we have seen, the Reivers will come in units of 5 to 10 and now they appear to be really good at getting into close combat. What do you think? Will you be picking some up?
A lot of things about when 8th edition is going to hit and what it will contain have been floating around the web this weekend. Here's a collection of what's what but as with all rumors, take with applicable salt:
"Day one any beyond:
June 10th launch, they’re going to drip feed us rumors for the rest of May. Expect to see full Space Marine datasheets sometime around the end of next week, with a couple of fluff pieces talking about how the galaxy got ripped in half and how all the marines got taller.
For those of you who are saving your pennies, here’s what the launch schedule looked like so far.
About 1-2 weeks beforehand all 7th edition exclusive products are being pulled from stores for good. Codex’s, Rulebooks, Dark Vengeance, not the new campaign books such as Gathering Storm [since] those are still fluff pieces, but expect those to become much harder to find.
Then on day 1: 5 new, free soft cover/PDFs launch with all the core 8th edition rules.
They are: The Rules: Containing your prophesized 12 pages of core rules, plus outlines for open play and the 14 universal FoC, ranging from 1 HQ and 1 Troop choice = 1 command point allies to massive 20+ slot charts that grants a fist full of command. The new force org charts are pitched as a great way [to] customize your army, one of them is a big guns esq 1 troop/HQ 5+ Heavy support, but really they’re just designed to scale command points to game size.
A few of the wilder ones, such as the aforementioned big guns list, have restrictions and special rules that might sway players one way or the other in terms of army composition, but the more well-rounded ones grant the most command points (which are such a big deal. I cannot stress this enough, proper use of command points can make or break strategies), and the real meat and potatoes special rules granting armies are going to be built from the FoC structures found in your army codex, once they bring those back. The free PDF version of the following books will be sectioned up amongst faction lines, but the paper ones are going to be the mash-ups listed below.
Armies of the Imperium: Exactly what it says on the cover, a splash of lore and datasheets for every imperial unit in the game. Armies of chaos: The spiky version of the above.
Armies of Xenos: Split up among proper faction lines (Eldar, Tau, Necron, Nids), and containing datasheets and rules for the rest.
A galaxy in flames: Art and fluff book. Brings everyone up to speed on the setting, pushing the story forward by a few weeks and setting up the opening of a AoS style narrative campaign."
Also:
The battle tome will become the template for the codex, not the other way around. Each dex will get the special army wide rules, 6-12 relics, 6 warlord traits, and 6 psychic powers, only now it’s written that you can chose to ether select or roll on warlord/psychic charts. It will also contain full rules and points for all the old and new units in a given army, and special rules for things like warbands, campaigns, narrative missions and the like.
Formations are back, but they cost points now, and so are decurons, but they will be a lot more flexible and take cues from their AoS counterparts
And then there was some speculation on what the starter would contain:
"Starter Set The starter set goes live the 17th and is going to be Death Guard Vs. Ultramarines, $120 box. Chaos gets a blob of cultists, a few terminators, a few plague marines, a lord, and drones. Loyalists get 2 tactical squads, a devastator, an assault squad, plus a librarian and a captain. Comes with dice and rulers as well.
In addition, there will be the standard soft cover core rules booklet and a small campaign book. The campaign book has the stats for all the dudes in the box, plus a series of narrative missions that set up the ground floor for the first real story arc of the new edition."
There was also the video GW released yesterday that seems to confirm the thought debunked rumor that we were going to get larger marine models:
After the long awaited and un-shocking reveal over the weekend that 40k 8th edition is coming, the Warhammer Community team had a live feed today to go over the FAQ they released and to answer questions live from we hungry gamers. Here is what I gleaned from the live feed:
Movement stat and Armor modifiers are doubly confirmed.
Vehicles lose armor values, will degrade over time like in
Age of Sigmar. Monsters too. (everything can hurt everything else) No stat is
capped at 10. Bolters will be able to hurt tanks. Knights will doubtless have
tons of wounds.
All models and scenery currently in 7th edition
will receive rules.
Command points:
there will be 14 force organization charts.
Each one generates a number of command points, You can reroll a die. You can interrupt the initiative a
charger gets for charging. The command points will fit with the fluff of each army You can only use one per phase. Templates are going
away! 5 books will come out
at launch, containing rules for ALL THE ARMIES! Codexes
will come out afterwards detailing each specific army. Cities of death and
other supplements will be updated
“This will be the most balanced edition we have ever had”
The three styles of play: Open, Narrative, and Pitched will
be constantly refreshed just like the General’s Handbook in AoS A Warhammer 40k app is in the works but won’t be ready at
launch
The top three design goals were: “work for all three ways to
play, hold up to the competitive aspect, make it far more accessible”
Wanted to make Chaos the big threat in the new edition and
not in the background like previous editions.
There will be two different sets of point values:
Power level will
focus on narrative play that covers a broad stroke on units (doesn’t worry
about weapon loadouts)
Matched play pays
for points per model and weapon as well as other gear just like we currently
do.
New Factions we haven’t seen before will appear, some at
launch!
Keyword will work in the units like Age of Sigmar, in an effort
to nerf death stars and super friends. The example given was that marines and
imperial guard won’t get to swap benefits because of their keywords.
They want close combat to be viable again and feel the rules
support close combat armies just as much as shooty ones.
They really want to make this an edition that people will
enjoy.
Well that was the gist of the Live feed. The last point they wanted to put out there that anyone that has proof of purchase on a codex in the last 8 weeks will be able to contact their customer service and receive a voucher for their purchase, which was pretty decent of them.
What do you guys think? I'm excited but I know there will be oceans of salt out there.
As many people have been noticing, SW: Armageddon seems to be a serious return to the days of 2nd edition. Whether that's good or bad depends a lot of the gamer but if this IS a lead in to how 40k 8th Edition plays I can see how different point tiers like what we see in Age of Sigmar becoming an important distinction for games. If you take a look at the leaks that hit the web today for Eldar, Dark Eldar, and Tau, there will be lots of modifiers to standard dice rolls, and with those kinds of time consuming calculations in play a 1,000 point game could take 4 hours potentially. Keep in mind this is ALL speculation but if this is the sneak peek at 8th Edition a lot of us expect it is, the way we play will change significantly. Codex bloat will wither away but modifier stalling while playing will create longer games yet those games will have more tactical depth as you play the battle field for those modifier advantages.
Here are a few examples but be sure to click the links for all the images:
They sure look like the kinds of warscrolls we might see for 40k, don't they?
Thanks to the website La Voz de Horus for spreading these scans around
For those of you who are interested in seeing what this different version of Necromunda might hold for you before you buy it, imgur user Aracersxx has posted four scans. It appears to be a rather simplified rules set like Age of Sigmar. The one downside I see so far is that (in these few pages) they only have Ork and Marine type weapons, excluding any of the other races GW said will be playable. In other words, expect another book for Shadow Wars in the near future.
As has been discussed amongst my local gamer group, pay attention to these rules as they could be the precursor to what 8th edition 40k holds in store for us.
I don't have any interest in Shadespire and not much more in Armageddon (I wanted Necromunda as was) but the Armageddon set has some interesting new terrain in it and they have already discussed the other races you'll be able to play besides the starter set of Scout Marines and Orks here. The rules for Armageddon will be playing a part in an upcoming Narrative Campaign a group of likeminded gamers are concocting for when 8th edition drops and I'll be making a separate blog about that soon.
For 40k itself, the Talons of the Emperor box set came out. It has a unit of Custodes, a unit of Sisters of Silence, a variant Land Raider, a variant Rhino, and a Custodes Dreadnought, plus two codexes for a steal at $160. Seems like they will be out and about the universe now that Guilliman has kicked them out of the Imperial Palace on Terra. Also, a plastic Thunderhawk is soon to be released and tons of people will be grabbing one.
On the Age of Sigma side of things an entire race has been added to the game: Kharadron Overlords! They are steampunk sky dwarfs, buzzing around in zeppelins and the like. I know quite a few people that are interested in this army and are already waiting for pre-orders, which will hit the GW website this weekend when the new White Dwarf comes out.
Also, Games Workshop is getting into the apparel business with a new webstore: Warhammer Wargear! The selection is a little limited right now since they just opened up but I am looking forward to seeing what they have down the line for Eldar clothing.
Did I miss anything you felt needed mentioning? Feel free to leave a comment and it may get turned into a topic for an upcoming blog post!
It has been an avalanche of new news today. Early this morning Bell of Lost Souls posted a lengthy rumor from 75Hastings69, someone they vetted as a reliable source:
“I wouldn’t be expecting too much in the way of releases for existing chapters from this point going forwards, not that there won’t be ‘some’, expect the focus to shift onto GW pumping out RGs new armies and weapons of destruction for the upcoming storylines/advances/crusade mk2 (who knows there might even be a new starter box on the not too far horizon )
Without trying to sound like a dick I’ve known for almost 9 months where this story was going and who revived RG etc. if the rest of what I was told is true (new marines, Mortarion and his plague armies etc.) then there are truly some very exciting times coming for 40k players/hobbyists!
…Imagine how the sigmarines are to the standard empire soldier. Wouldn’t it be a weird twist of fate if AoS copy pasted space marines into the fantasy setting as Sigmar’s answer to chaos always winning, that somehow w40k kind of copy pasted the end times and reboot of fantasy AoS into 40k with the same fundamental idea….. hence new marines will spearhead offensive for the emperor following on from current w40k fluff events/outcome.
…New marines will make old marines seem like empire now seem to sigmarines …… if that makes sense?
…I’m not suggesting anything gets squatted. I said clearly focus will be on new marines rather than existing chapters, but existing chapters will still get releases. I don’t get it, people are happy they’re moving the story/timeline on but don’t want anything to change, they want just their chapter to get new toys yet complain SM have too much, 40k players should think themselves lucky that they didn’t get the same treatment that WFB fans did with the destruction of the setting and large parts of models/armies. What’s the point of the hobby for Bret or tomb kings players? I see new marines as a chance to have the best of both worlds, SM originals don’t get endless variants and units but are still in the fight, new marines are like a new army to build up from scratch pretty much, I’m sure they’d happily ally so don’t really see what the problem is.
…The answer to that is simply I don’t know. I was told they new marines are different to current marines, I imagine (at least fluff wise) they SHOULD be their own army, however that’s not to say they wont also be added to existing chapters as a choice somehow, in fact from a sales point of view it would probably be better to offer them to existing marine players as something new they can buy. I really doubt the iconic space marine kit will be retired so I wouldn’t worry too much about them becoming outdated. I guess fluffwise it would be no different than older armour classes still being around in 40k, sure the new marines would be out there, but a lot of existing marines are still out there too.”
No sooner than that, the following image hit the internet:
In the new Talons of the Emperor box we obviously gain a Custodes dreadnought, rhino, land raider, a unit of Custodes, and a unit of Sisters of Silence. Below is the Warhammer Community page's write up of this:
Talons of the Emperor in the 41st MillenniumClad in baroque, golden artificer armour and armed with priceless relic weaponry, the Talons of the Emperor are joining the battlefields of the 41st Millennium. Rules for using the elite Adeptus Custodes, Sisters of Silence, their vehicles and two brand new detachments (one each) in your games of Warhammer 40,000 will be available very soon, both in this box set and as separate digital downloads. The personal bodyguards of the Emperor himself have come to quell the Gathering Storm; this is your chance to lead them into battle.
And then right after THAT, this was momentarily viewable on the Black Library page:
So, there you have it! The Custodes are coming to join the war in the 41st millennium. It would seem that when Roboute Guilliman gets to Terra he sees the Custodes as a wasted resource in their seclusion on Terra and have given them the boot out of the Imperial Palace. Are you excited to see these highly skilled titans joining the war?
More leaked images have begun to float around the internet and it will undoubtedly continue as the weekend release of Gathering Storm III approaches. Yesterday, the page from GSIII showing Guilliman's points and stats hit the internet along with a data sheet out of the Imperial Triumvirate box from tarar2d2:
A lot of moaning has already hit the internet and fallen into 2 camps: either Guilliman is too powerful for his points and will wreck the game or he is worthless because he can't join units and will quickly get ganked. My two cents, based on his performance on the Warhammer Twitch battle on 3/3 is that he will wreck face and is the perfect representation of a Primarch on the tabletop. Except for his 6" movement. Honestly, they should have given him a move of 12 as the guy is genetically modified to be all spider monkey fast but it's a small gripe. Trust me, he works like he should. Some people just aren't going to like that.
Now on to the extra stuff that is coming out. Now, a couple scans of the rules for The Fallen (the Dark Angels that sided with Luther during the Horus Heresy) have hit the internet. Pretty interesting, I'd say:
The image comes from blogger La Voz de Horus and he goes on to explain the rules for them. Since you may not be able to read Spanish, or care to Google Translate the info they load out similarly to the typical tactical squad, adding 5 more marines, access to combi weapons, heavy weapons, and what not. The blogger doesn't seem to know if The Fallen get access to rhinos or drop pods, so I'm not entirely sure if they will get them if it isn't stated on the data sheet. Feel free to check out the original post here.
Now, the potential for major spoilers lies below. Bell of Lost Souls posted all of these on Imgur, and while they are almost all fluff one page does describe the Fallen Angels formation rules and a scenario.
I'll let you check out the rest here. To be honest, a quick scan of the pages didn't reveal the specifics of how Guilliman is restored or what happens when he gets to Terra but it is revealed that he faces not only Skarbrand but Magnus as well. Presumably he comes out on top of these two encounters because he DOES make it to Terra.
Are you still excited about what Gathering Storm III will reveal this weekend?
I feel like he is a bit under-costed but at least he is ripe for South Park Lock Ness monster quotes. He is still a Lord of War and will be stuck out in the open all by his self, so there are ways to combat him. Space Marine players are going to have a TON of fun with him, though.
As you can see, Roboute (pronounced Row -bo- wtuh- A) is a monstrous creature (character). His stats are sixes across the board (I imagine his WS is highter). He has a 2+/3++, and if he manages to be slain he can return on a 4+ with d3 wounds. Presumably he can do this continuously thanks to the armor and you can read the rest of his armor's info below.
The gun stats in the top of this image apply to the gun attached to his gauntlet. 24", S6. AP2, Assault 3, rending is pretty sweet.
What little bit we can see on the Sword of the Emperor is nice. Strength 10, AP1, Melee, Armorbane, Concussion, Soul Blaze, Touch of the Emperor, Whirling Flame. They said that he can hit at x2 strength and the sword can be a d weapon. Pretty gnarly.
Make sure to check out the Twitch channel to watch Roboute Guilliman fight against the forces of Chaos!
As is usually the case, the week before the next issue of White Dwarf had brought tons of leaked images to our hands for us to absorb and converse over. This week will also be a huge week for Warhammer Twitch TV because it will have several reveals of the upcoming Gathering Storm III book and at least one battle report with Roboute Guilliman in the mix. Of course, the rest of this post will contain some spoilers, but there are many more left to reveal when GSIII hits the shelves.
Here are the leaked images:
Not sure if the giant eagle comes with the Imperial Triumvirate but it's an awesome display.
And here are some photo's from an article about the overall story:
Also, nothing in the images so far have revealed whether an over the weekend rumor that Cypher is actually Farith Redloss. It would be interesting if this were true but there doesn't seem to be anything out there to substantiate the claim, so who knows. A dakka dakka forum member is the one who put it out there, so it's all on Orock as to the validity.
The prices were also revealed. The Imperial Triumvirate will set you back $90 dollars (kind of a steal considering there is a primarch in there) and Gathering Storm III: Rise of the Primarch will be $50. Both go on pre-order March 4th and will arrive to your hands on the 11th.
Just like with Gathering Storm II, all this info just makes me want the book even more. What about you folks? Be sure to let me know your predictions in the comments below!
These notes are on what I can only assume is a final read through of an early released copy of Gathering Storm II: Fracture of Biel-Tan. They are definitely spoilers and at this point I wouldn't see why anyone would fabricate these tidbits but take as much salt with them as you want until your copy arrives. All these are mentioned by Faeit 212 community member Dave. (grammar tightening by moi)
-Yvraine's rebirth basically opens Khaine's gate in Commoragh and he breaks loose as a dysfunction begins with the Ynnari escaping just in time.
- The BT craftworld is left abandoned after a demon invasion, which destroys it. All the warriors go to Ulthwe where a contingent of the new found Altansar turn up but then leave there together.
- A mission to a Crone World gets the Yncarne his Crone Sword but results in several dead Ynnari. They are rescued by Iyanna Arienal and head directly to Iyanden
- All is not well as Iyanden is under attack by Nurgle. Eventually Nurgle is killed but a daemon prince kills Yriel and infects his body, so it will infect the craftworld later for a fun surprise
- Thankfully the farseers of Iyanden are better than Biel Tan's and they basically put Yriel in stasis only for Yvraine to shove the spear of twilight into his chest. It kills the nurgle infection and ressurects Yriel with all of the souls the spear has stolen. The story also reveals the spear is the 4th crone sword (just one left now on Belial IV but it's surrounded by demons which is not ideal to say the least) (This is an interesting development)
- Asdrubael Vect's plan in Commoragh backfires and the demons are everywhere. Basically everyone is thinking about uniting to kill him. Meanwhile Kherdruakh gets his last skull and opens a portal into the mandrake realm and they flood the city and basically beat back the Demons but it's not exactly clear if they are doing this to help the DE or intend to kill them next.
- Ulthwe, Biel Tan, Altansar, Iyanden, Ynnari, Harlequins, Corsairs, and few Commorites enter the webway to meet the Imperials as they all agree the only way to beat chaos is to use the humans. But humans are corruptible, so give them faith and it will prevent it. They decide "the days of the corpse emperor are over, they shall have a new leader" (one who exists so they believe in and aren't corrupted) (I guess this is why Yvraine brings back Roboute Guilliman. Another interesting idea)
- In the Webway there is a massive Thousand Sons and Tzeentzch attack which wipes out half the Ynnari. Everything looks bad when Ahriman sucks the Triumvirate into the warp and is about to feed them to Tzeentch himself when Yvraine says she can use her powers to reverse the rubric. Ahriman he sucks her back into the Webway with the Visarchand she turns them mortal again. (WOW) Ahriman is loving it but then Yvraine blows a hole in the Webway and all the living thousand sons are sucked directly into the warp by the Yncarne who's still outside the Webway (implied it does not end well for them) and Ahriman is screaming like mad but now he only has the rubrics Yvraine did not do her trick on so he has to flee, Cegorach himself is heard laughing at how much she trolls Ahriman
- they arrive at the planet (??). Lelith and the cult of strife pledge to join the Ynnari if Yvraine proves it works then they all meet the Imperials and flee into the Webway for Macragge
WOW. Those are some MAJOR shake ups in the storyline. That will take a moment or two to process. What do you guys think about these turns of events?? Comment below!
Here are some leaks of particular interest to me because they are FLUFF LEAKS! I'm sure most of you would disagree, eagerly awaiting any chance for rules and formations you don't have to pay for (shame on you! Sure, read the leaks but support the hobby and your local store!) but in major events like this I'm far more interested in what's happening or what has the potential to happen. Friday can't arrive soon enough for me to pick up my copy of Gathering Storm II so I can confirm what is going on with my Eldar.
For those who need more anticipation here are a few scans from Dakka Dakka user Warhams-77.
Sadly, this doesn't cover much more than astute followers of the leaks already know OTHER than the explanation that an errant webway access portal into Biel-Tan may have been its undoing. That's good news for those who are siding with the Ynnead because it gives them an "It wasn't our fault!" excuse. For more scans, check out Warhams-77's scans here.
What do you think will be the repercussions of Ynnead's birth?
A few lucky devils already have their hands on this most coveted tome. I personally will be buying this book anyway because none of the internet pirates seem to want to share the fluff stuff I so desperately crave.
Anyhoo, here is your plate of spoilers:
Aeldari Bladehost
Army Rules
Formation selection
Reborn Warhost Detachment rules
Revenant psychic discipline
Soulbound Vanguard
Ulthwe Strikeforce formation
The Visarch
Warlord Traits
Wispering Ghost Hall
The Yyncarne
Ynnead formation
Yvraine
Well, are you satisfied, excited, or enraged? Comment below!!
Warhammer TV has released the first video (hopefully of many) on one of the new characters from Gathering Storm II: Fracture of Biel-Tan. Check it out!
The floodgates opened wide this weekend. All sorts of GW goodies spilled out so let's do some catching up, eh?
First off, in response to the leaks of the Gathering Storm III models, the Warhammer Community folks again jumped ahead of the tide and not only released this video:
The video contains views of not only Roboute Guilliman:
Without helmet, because who shoots for the head?
With helmet, because people shoot for the head.
but the Fallen Dark Angel Cypher:
I'm 100% positive that the sword belongs to The Lion
and Grand Master Voldus of the Grey Knights 3rd brotherhood:
Because the Grey Knights are underpowered and need more oomph??
GW also presented the entire article about the models and Gathering Storm III for reading here. It's an interesting article, though I have no interest in getting the 'Imperial Triumvirate' I will likely get the book because the developments are so huge.
"As you can probably tell from the title of the book, their arrival sparks one of the most miraculous, game-changing events in the history of Warhammer 40,000 – the resurrection of the Primarch Roboute Guilliman, who must then come to terms with what the Imperium has become in the 9,000 years he’s been in stasis."
Guilliman, (who I consider to be a heretic and traitor on the grounds that he founded a Second Imperium during the Horus Heresy while the Emperor, Sanguinus, and most importantly the incredibly badass Rogal Dorn fought to keep Terra from falling to Chaos), will likely be pretty pissed at what has transpired in the 9,000 years he has been asleep. The Imperium is nothing like the promise the Great Crusade was to deliver and if he sticks around he has a lot of work ahead of him. There is not telling what the far reaching implications could be but I could be a good time to be human in the 41st millennium. Assuming Guilliman sticks around that is. In the article they make a clear point to show that his armor contains a life support system, so he may not be as hale as we think.
On to Forge World, they were also busy over the weekend with news updates on the upcoming game Adeptus Titanicus, a slew of Adeptus Custodes models and ships, and images from the next Horus Heresy book: Angelus.
Adeptus Titanicus will be a game focused on all things giant robot, from Titans down to Imperial Knights. Here is a pic of one of the pages in the rulebook:
The highlight for me out of all the planned model releases for the Adeptus Custodes is this exclusive figure here:
though I admit to some bias towards one of their none Custodes releases:
I needs it, Precious!
and make sure to head here for the rest of the images Warhammer Community gifted us with!
The last little tidbit from the weekend is one of significant nerd joy:
Unfortunately I couldn't discern whether this was in the latest book Inferno or is coming in Angelus but one thing is very clear, the Emperor IS coming.
